The almond blossom is by tradition the first sign of spring, and spring is the season of hope. The Oriental style of the painting was very intentional. He painted it as a gift for his brother and wife on the birth of his nephew. In a letter to Vincent who was in an asylum at the time, his brother said that he named the baby Vincent and hoped his son would have the courage his
